Can I purchase a single license?
Scenes: Can I purchase a single license to erase my old computer? It's very old and I want to get rid of it, I had some files on it, but I didn't use them for a long time, so I think they're not that important to me, that said, I don't want others to see them either, I don't want to remove the hard drive and wipe it from another computer, because I don't have a spare one, I want to erase everything on it. I checked the CD-ROM is still OK, but with a little noise, the USB ports are all USB 2.0, still, works, so I'm looking for a program that can boot from CD or USB to erase my computer, is there any suggestion? If there is any commercial eraser, then can I purchase a single license?
If you have another computer, I would recommend the Free Edition of ByebyeData Eraser, which is able to erase the entire disk without any bootable device. In the case you mentioned, I think the Pro for Home Edition is the best choice. It is able to create a bootable media with the built-in function, so please prepare a blank recordable CD or USB, then we'll get started with the following steps:
1 Download ByebyeData Eraser Pro for Home Edition, install it and Run it as administrator. Copy the license from the email you received after purchase and then activate the program when prompted, yes, it's a single license, can only be activated on one computer.
2 After activated the software, you are free to use all the functions. Now we click Bootable media and click Browse to find a path for the ISO file we're going to create, it defaults to the install path of the program. Then we click Create and after seconds, you can see the ByebyeData Eraser ISO file.
3 Insert the blank CD or a USB, the USB will be formatted before burning, so make sure you had a backup for the USB files. Then if you're using Windows 7 and above system, you can double-click the ISO file and burn it to CD within few seconds; Burning ISO file onto USB, however, requires third-party software to do so, we would advise the Rufus free portable program, easy to use and work fast.
4 After the bootable media is created, you can now close all the running programs and Restart the computer, don't plug out the CD or USB we just used, just keep them connected, then press the corresponding key (F2 mostly) prompted on the screen and boot into BIOS, set the boot order to CD-ROM or USB flash drive, save the changes and it will reboot again.
5. Now you can see the WinPE ByebyeData Eraser, then click Entire disk, right-click on the empty area and click Select All to choose all the disks installed to the computer, then in the security column, we can choose a wiping method from the 14 listed algorithms, or just skip this step if you satisfy with the default wiping plan.
6. Click Erase Now and you'll be prompted with a confirmation dialog, just click Yes to it and Eraser will start to overwrite the hard drives you selected. It may take hours if the capacity it very big, so you can do this before you sleep or just choose a weekend.
