I have deleted all the files on my external hard drive, what would you recommend me to do, erase the entire disk or erase free space?
If you want to keep all the partitions and their drive label, it is better to erase free space, while doing so, free space, unused space and deleted space will be overwrite.
Erase the entire disk, on the other hand, will erase everything on the disk, which after erased will display RAW in Windows Disk management, cannot be used again until you initialize, format it and create partition on it.
Erase free space is the better choice when situation comes to erasing sensitive files traces, besides, erase free space will not touch existing data, and you don't have to worry erasing wrong files if you have many other files stored on the hard drive.
