Erase personal info from work computer
You may have worked in one company for many years, the laptop or desktop you're using may have served your for that much long time but now performs show and even show no response to your clicks, it is time to turn it the old computer and buy a new one. Before you deliver it the IT department, please make sure person info on the years served computer are backed up and erased clean. This also applies to the work laptop you're about to return when you leave your job.
The first thing we need to do is backup personal info, since take-home laptops may have stored personal info like login accounts and passwords, you don't have to worry about the online accounts, but you do need a backup on local files like images, vides, or music. After a complete backup we can dive in.
Ask the Tech guy what you should do before turning it in, or what status shall the laptop be in, system installed or clean of nothing. In my company, we'll just wipe the laptop clean, yes, wipe everything clean including the operating system, and then the IT dept. will decide to donate to charity or reinstall the system again, basically speaking, 5 years old daily-use computers will directly go to the donation section, while 3 years old ones will be reviewed.
Taking that into consideration, we'll start to erase the computer.
1. Download ByebyeData Eraser, which maybe the last downloaded file for the old computer, install it and run as administrator.
2. Take a quick view of the functions listed in the left navigation bar and you'll find that Eraser is able to erase disk, drive, free space, files and folders. it is your decision to which function to erase data, depending on the erasing level and files you required. Or you can just erase the entire disk if you had already backed up essentials and don't want to waste time on loading items to the erase list in ByebyeData Eraser.
3. To erase the hard drive clean of nothing, we need to create a boot CD, but if you want to keep the operating system, you can erase all the logical drives instead, D, E, F drive, not the C Drive,
4. After the completed the according steps to make the hard drive clean again, you can now turn it the computer to the Tech guys, say bye-bye to old data without any worries.
