How to erase free space?
To erase free space on a hard drive we need to download a third-party program called ByebyeData Eraser and install it, and then run it as administrator, then:
1. Click Erase free space and select all the drives that you want to erase, drives which have traces of deleted files.
2. Choose a wiping method from the security list, we set Zero filling algorithm as the default erasure method, it’s simple and fast, also it’s secure clean beyond recovery. Erasing free space is not erasing individual files or folders, time costing on this function will be much longer than that of files. So when you don’t limited time to make a disk clean, the 1 pass filling methods are the best option.
3. Click Erase Now and you’re prompted to confirm, click Yes.
Can I recover deleted files from my hard drive?
After the above steps?
No, Deleted files that have been overwritten cannot be recovered.

And the answer goes Yes when you run data recovery software immediately after you deleted files.
Can a file be recovered after deleting from recycle bin?
Yes, empty recycle bin won't make data disappear either; you can get them back with free data recovery programs.
But if you have done the aforementioned steps to erase free space on the target drive, there's no possibility to recover files deleted in recycle bin.
Empty recycle or press Shift + Delete is just to make that space available for other document, residual contents are invisible to us but visible to recovery software. Erase, however, is to kill both references and contents.
How to prevent data recovery from hard disk?
To make sure deleted files can't be recovered is to overwrite the deleted space with meaningless characters.
Erasing free space with the mentioned steps above, for example, is to overwrite sectors with zeros, which is to fill each sector with all zeros so that traces and contents of original files are killed.
After erasing free space, you can run the data recovery software again to check if it still able to find anything.
